John, is great he took the time to interact with all the photographers. He asked how we was going to take black & white pre or post processing. He let us go on or own to find that unique shot at the Oakland public market & Lake Merritt. I'm looking forward to his chasing the sunset class.

My name is John Dockery, I'm a photographer based in the bay area, I started doing photography right after high school, and I just fell in love with it. I take a variety of photos from landscape, to portraits, to editorial, but I love documentary photography. I love the story that each individual holds, and how complex and intriguing each and every person is. I hope to travel to different parts of the world and document the untold stories of different cultures and individuals.

Sonder: The realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own.

John Dockery is available for private bookings

    Available most weekends from 10am-6pm

I offer one on one tutoring, from the fundamentals of photography, to learning a specific area of photography, whether that's portraits, landscape, street, etc.

I also do private or corporate events or parties, weddings, engagements, and graduations.

Verona, Italy, a city known for its stunning history and architecture, holds a special place in our hearts. But beyond the iconic landmarks lies a different side?one perfect for industrial and off-the-beaten-path photography. In 2019, we ventured into these lesser-known corners of Verona, capturing the raw beauty that often goes unnoticed. This image is a testament to the hidden gems that make Verona truly unique.

I had raised the ISO up to 800, as the light was beginning to fade late in the day. And the colors on the horizon were crazy, the clouds in the top of the frame had some crazy textures and colors, too - but there was a great glow to the foreground as wel. I shot this on a Nikon Z7ii with a 24-120mm F4 lens. With the ISO up, I was able to get some good depth of field down to f9.0, and the shutter was set to 1/800 sec, so that I could get a good quick shutter to catch the action on the wave, a

A great afternoon with dramatic light. Some strong winds was blowing the clouds and the spray off the waves, but the surfers were stoked. Shot on a Nikon Z7ii, I went for a low ISO of 100 for detail, and the 70-200mm lens was at 80mm, f5.0 at 1/400 sec.

It was a rainy morning, but I was loving what this focal length was getting me with this view. We were at an overlook, just next to Battery Godfrey. December 16, 2023. Nikon Z7ii, 70-200mm f2.8 lens with a TC2.0, for a 400mm practical.

This shot was taken on my first day into this trip. My wife and I decided to spend Labor Day weekend in the mountains which was wonderful but also very busy which isn't the best for wildlife photography. However, I did come away with some good shots from my outing (mostly landscape) and this is by far one of my favorite. I love how the light is striking the deer's face while he is mostly shrouded in shadow. I took this with a Nikon 200-500mm @ 500, 1/160s, ISO 100 and f6.3. I shot this across th

Was out looking for anything to photograph on one my few days off from work. So I went to the plot of land where I deer hunt. Any wild flower that may still be in bloom, insects, things like that. Tons of grasshoppers everywhere and I came across this fella. I didn't realize he possibly had a wounded left wing until I processed the photos. No wonder he sat thru many different angles, exposures, and me getting up in his face and didn't offer to fly off. I saw the sky start to get some color after looking too overcast. I grabbed my gear and went down to the road behind where I live. I had gotten a few shots of the headlights going the other way and it was too much of a contrast with the sky. I got set up, with the camera low to the ground and got a couple test shots. Then shot this at 5 seconds.
